BLOG: Stirling x QILO - Gibson Pilot Watch (Drops 11/26)
We are excited to join up with our friends at Stirling Timepieces once again to bring you a special edition watch. After running their ubiquitous “Campbell” dive watch on our last go around, we decided to partner again on their pilot watch model - The Gibson.
Why the Gibson? Or better yet - why a Pilot Watch?
There are a number of features that made us fall in love with the Gibson.
Firstly - the styling of the dial & case. This is a more elegant, upscale watch that can be dressed up, while maintaining a sporty enough look to dress down. The large Arabic numerals make time-telling quick & easy, and thus ubiquitous in pilot watches due to ease of use.
The Gibson is also thinner and lighter than its dive watch counterparts, and we found that it is easy to sport with long sleeves and jackets in particular - tucking in neatly under cuffs and sleeves where thicker watches often interfere.
Secondly - the movement and internals. Unlike their Campbell model that we last ran (which used a Seiko movement), there is a Swiss movement at the heart of the Gibson. This movement creates a creamy second hand sweep that is pleasing to observe, along with being accurate & reliable.
What did we change? While Stirling’s standard Gibson features a matte black dial, we wanted to do something fun & eye-catching to reflect QILO. This watch features a sunburst blue metallic dial - the first colored dial on a Stirling watch to date. Our logo is also displayed just above the “6” numeral.
